Title Tag
The clickable headline of a search result and a real ranking factor — the single most important piece of on-page SEO.
Definition
A title tag is the HTML element that sets the clickable headline shown for your page in search results and browser tabs. It's both a genuine ranking factor and the first thing a searcher reads.
In depth
The title tag is the bold blue line you click in the SERP. It tells search engines what the page is about and tells searchers whether it's worth their click. Because it carries real ranking weight and lifts CTR at the same time, it's the highest-leverage piece of on-page SEO on any page — usually best kept under about 60 characters so it doesn't get cut off.
For a local service business, the formula is straightforward and powerful: lead with the service, add the location, and include your brand. 'Bathroom Remodeling in [City] | [Company]' matches what homeowners search and helps both rankings and clicks. Pair it with a sharp meta description and you own the whole listing. A page titled just 'Home' or 'Services' throws away your best ranking signal.
The common mistake is reusing the same title across the whole site or stuffing it with keywords until it reads like gibberish. Every page needs a unique, readable title. We write one per page that mirrors the actual search, fits within the visible length, and leads with the service and city that bring in leads.
Worked example
We changed a contractor's homepage title from 'Welcome to Our Site' to 'Kitchen & Bath Remodeling in [City] | [Company]' — rankings and clicks both jumped within a few weeks.
